Your school is responsible for complying with FERPA — Model B's role is to make that easier, not harder. Here's how the platform is built to support your compliance, not work against it.
Model B operates as a "school official" under FERPA: a service your school has authorized to perform a function it would otherwise handle with its own employees, under your school's direct control, and solely for a legitimate educational purpose. We don't access student data independently, and we don't use it for anything beyond providing the service your school has asked for.
Some Model B features — school-recognition and award announcements, for example — may be visible to all authenticated staff rather than restricted to administrators. This content is limited to what schools commonly designate as "directory information" under FERPA. The designation is yours to make, not ours — your school's own annual FERPA notice and any opt-outs you maintain govern what's appropriate to share this way. We don't make that call on your behalf.
Every role in Model B has access scoped to what that role needs — nothing more. Beyond that, the platform maintains audit logs for its most sensitive access patterns: every action a substitute teacher takes is logged with before/after values, and every instance of Model B's own personnel accessing your account is logged — who, when, and for how long. If your school ever needs to demonstrate access controls as part of your own compliance documentation, this is available on request.
Model B does not currently collect parent or guardian names, contact information, or relationship data. There's less to protect, and less for your school to account for in its own privacy notices, because we simply don't hold it.
If your school needs a signed Data Privacy Agreement, we're prepared to execute the TX-NDPA — the standard agreement maintained by the Texas Student Privacy Alliance — rather than asking you to review a bespoke document. If your district's FERPA compliance process requires something specific from us that isn't covered here, reach out and we'll work through it directly.
