Many of the students whose information passes through Model B are under 13, so this isn't an abstract compliance topic for us — it's the majority case.
Model B is provided to schools, not directly to children. Any student information Model B processes is entered by school staff under the school's own authority as an educational institution — students and families don't create Model B accounts, and Model B doesn't market to or collect information directly from children.
The Federal Trade Commission has recognized that a school can consent to information collection on behalf of parents when a service is used for a school-authorized educational purpose and the data isn't used for commercial purposes beyond that function. That's the basis on which Model B operates: your school authorizes what data is entered and how the platform is used, consistent with the same "school official" relationship described in our FERPA Commitment.
Model B does not use student data — of any age — to serve advertising, build behavioral profiles, or track children across other sites or services. We do not sell data, to anyone, for any reason. Data is used solely to provide the operational features your school has enabled.
Because Model B's relationship is with your school, not directly with families, questions or requests about a specific child's data should go through your school first — they control that relationship and can reach us directly on your behalf. If you're a parent and your school directs a question to us, we're glad to help.
